<channel><title><![CDATA[THE ART OF PAULA ROSENBLUM DERRINGTON - News and Updates]]></title><link><![CDATA[https://www.paintings4areason.com/news-and-updates]]></link><description><![CDATA[News and Updates]]></description><pubDate>Tue, 18 Mar 2025 14:08:45 -0700</pubDate><generator>Weebly</generator><item><title><![CDATA[HER-Story - Happy Independence Day]]></title><link><![CDATA[https://www.paintings4areason.com/news-and-updates/her-story-happy-independence-day]]></link><comments><![CDATA[https://www.paintings4areason.com/news-and-updates/her-story-happy-independence-day#comments]]></comments><pubDate>Tue, 06 Jul 2021 06:44:42 GMT</pubDate><category><![CDATA[Uncategorized]]></category><guid isPermaLink="false">https://www.paintings4areason.com/news-and-updates/her-story-happy-independence-day</guid><description><![CDATA[  Yesterday was the Fourth of July and after the noise and smoke of the fireworks have subsided, I got to thinking.&nbsp; We all know the story of Paul Revere and his heroic feat, but how many of us know the equally compelling tale of Sybil Ludington?&nbsp; Not only did she ride out into the dark of night to warn of the British arrival, but she did it by herself and she was only 16 years old!&nbsp; Yet it is not uncommon for incredible feats by woman to to be ignored.&nbsp; Hence, the creation o [...] ]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[  <div class="paragraph">Yesterday was the Fourth of July and after the noise and smoke of the fireworks have subsided, I got to thinking.&nbsp; We all know the story of Paul Revere and his heroic feat, but how many of us know the equally compelling tale of Sybil Ludington?&nbsp; Not only did she ride out into the dark of night to warn of the British arrival, but she did it by herself and she was only 16 years old!&nbsp; Yet it is not uncommon for incredible feats by woman to to be ignored.&nbsp; Hence, the creation of <a href="http://www.paintings4areason.com/her-story.html" target="_blank">Her-Story</a>.<br /><br />Judy Chicago embraced this theme when she created The Dinner Party in 1979.&nbsp; Presented as an installation, she created ceramic place settings to honor the forgotten women of history.&nbsp; I too have used installation of painting and music depicting women who have made contributions to humanity but have not been acknowledged as have their male counterparts.&nbsp; In this way, my work is open ended--new and incredible women keep appearing on the tapestry of human achievement and others become discovered who have not been recognized in the past.&nbsp;<br /><br />My goal is the hold yet another presentation of Her-Story with my hero in key position--Ruth Bader Ginsburg.&nbsp; For now, the group I have presented in the previous installation are featured in this website.&nbsp; &nbsp;They include: Sojourner Truth, an abolitionist who escaped slavery with her daughter to advocate for women&rsquo;s rights, Harriet Tubman, who led the Underground Railroad, Virginia Hall and Marlene Dietrich, who worked for the Allies in WWII, Viola Gregg Liuzzo, who worked as a Civil Rights advocate, philosopher and Black rights advocate, Angela Davis, and the first U.S. woman astronaut Sally Ride.<br /><br />Proceeds from the sale of these paintings will benefit Planned Parenthood.</div>]]></content:encoded></item><item><title><![CDATA[EcoArt at NMC]]></title><link><![CDATA[https://www.paintings4areason.com/news-and-updates/ecoart-at-nmc]]></link><comments><![CDATA[https://www.paintings4areason.com/news-and-updates/ecoart-at-nmc#comments]]></comments><pubDate>Sun, 07 Jan 2018 05:26:45 GMT</pubDate><category><![CDATA[Uncategorized]]></category><guid isPermaLink="false">https://www.paintings4areason.com/news-and-updates/ecoart-at-nmc</guid><description><![CDATA[The Fall semester has wrapped up at the Northern Marianas College.
